Nueces County, TX
Home Library Menu1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
Nueces County readers are encouraged to read at least 1,000 books to their child before they enter kindergarten to help jumpstart their reading journey.
Participants can use Readsquared, a free online tracking tool, to record their progress and earn cool digital badges along the way. Every time your child reads 100 books, you are invited to bring them to our 2 branches (Keach or Bishop) library location to pick a prize from our Treasure Chest and snap a photo using our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten photo frames.
The concept is simple and the rewards are priceless.
Read a book (any book, and repeats are fine) to your newborn, infant or toddler. That seems like way too many, right? Not at all. You got this. To make it a little easier we have 100 Backpacks filled with 10 books that you can check out with your Nueces County Library card at the Keach Family Library!
1 Backpack per family for checkout and 2 backpacks for Educator/ Institutional Library cards.
Check out our online catalog to look at the titles in the backpack.
1,000 Books Backpacks
It doesn't matter if your child is 3 years old or just 3 months - there's no better time to start than now! Reading one book per day means that after a year, you will have read 365 books. If you keep going, after two years you will have read 730 books together, and after three years the total will 1,095 books!
